Ikuu Boys’ winning streak: Academic excellence and drama festival glory

The Eastern Region Director of Education, Mr. Fredrick Kiiru, has urged students at Ikuu Boys High School to embrace discipline and hard work, saying that “extraordinary results demand extraordinary efforts.”

Speaking during the school’s Annual Education Day, Mr. Kiiru described Ikuu Boys as a “gold mine” and the best school in the region. He commended teachers for their dedication and reminded parents to be proud of their children’s achievements.

“The school has produced great men, and together we can make great things happen,” said Mr. Kiiru.

He called on students to avoid drug abuse, warning that it destroys futures. He further urged parents to support the school as it prepares to implement Competency-Based Education. (CBE).

Mr. Kiiru added that Ikuu Boys is well positioned to introduce senior school under CBE, which will equip learners with 21st-century skills to navigate an evolving world.

Principal Mr. Morris Nthiga said the Annual Education Day was an opportunity to celebrate academic success and launch new targets. The school aims to improve its mean score to 9.5 in the coming years.

“This day is also for gifting the students in recognition of their hard work,” said Mr. Nthiga.

He praised the school management and teachers for creating a conducive learning environment. The principal added that the school is ready to implement CBE, which will allow students to pursue three distinct pathways and develop diverse talents.

Ikuu Boys posted a mean score of 8.594 in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, with 233 out of 246 candidates qualifying for university admission.

The school also excelled in co-curricular activities during the 2025 Kenya National Drama and Film Festival. After a strong performance at the Eastern Region Drama Festival in March at Meru School and Kaaga Girls’ High School, the school advanced to the national stage held in Nakuru County in April.

The achievements reinforce Ikuu Boys’ status as a leading national school committed to holistic education.

The event aligns with the Ministry of Education’s efforts to promote academic excellence, learner discipline, leadership, and co-curricular development across the country.
