Kakamega county government has received a consignment of drugs worth Sh45 million from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
The Chief Officer for Medical Services, David Alillah received the delivery of the drugs at Kakamega General Hospital on Thursday.
Speaking to the media at the hospital, Alillah noted that the consignment consists of Sh30 million worth of pharmaceuticals and Sh15 million worth of non-pharmaceuticals.
He said the drugs will last between four and six months, adding that the county government will procure additional supplies in the coming months to ensure there is no shortage.
The Chief Officer explained that the county government is supporting the stocking of facilities with drugs, supplementing those purchased through the Facility Improvement Funds (FIFs) and remittances from the Social Health Authority (SHA).
“We currently have enough drugs in all our Level 2, Level 3, Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals,” he assured.
He dismissed claims by some politicians, accusing them of spreading falsehoods that hospitals in the county had run out of drugs.
Alillah warned that the false claims were discouraging residents from seeking treatment in public facilities and urged politicians to stop playing politics with the health sector.
