The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations began smoothly in Homa Bay town sub-county, with all 31 exam centres receiving their examination materials without any unusual incident.
Speaking during the release of the materials, Homa Bay town sub-county Director of Education Ziada Osano said the exercise had gone according to their expectations.
“We have just released the KCSE examination materials to 31 centre managers, and all the centres have received them without any challenges this morning,” Osano said. “We expect everything to proceed smoothly as the candidates settle for their exams,” she added.
Osano noted that 3,993 candidates are sitting for this year’s exams in the sub-county. Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for ensuring adequate staffing for all examination centres.
“TSC has deployed enough centre managers, invigilators and supervisors. All have been properly briefed on the regulations and guidelines as stipulated by KNEC,” she added.
The director urged candidates and examination officials to uphold integrity throughout the process, emphasizing that maintaining the credibility of the exams is a shared responsibility.
“Part of the measures to ensure a credible examination includes locking away mobile phones of all officers in the examination centres during the examination process, including those of security officers. This is in line with KNEC regulations to prevent malpractice,” Osano said, adding that security agencies are monitoring to deter any unauthorized use of communication devices.
The sub-county TSC Director Dr. Truphosa Korir lauded the coordination between education officers and security teams, saying it would guarantee a credible examination exercise.
“We have deployed around 200 invigilators and 38 supervisors to ensure that the examination process runs smoothly and transparently,” Dr. Korir said.
