The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Western Region has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with both the County Government of Vihiga and the National Government Administration to enhance road infrastructure development and connectivity across the county.
This follows a courtesy call by KeNHA Western Regional Director, Eng. Annette Ingaiza, to Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo and Vihiga Deputy County Commissioner Linet Kerubo Orina.
The meetings focused on strengthening collaboration among KeNHA, the County Government and the National Administration in the implementation of ongoing and planned road projects within Vihiga County.
Key issues discussed included road infrastructure development, road safety enhancement measures, drainage improvement works, protection of road reserves, and stakeholder engagement aimed at ensuring smooth implementation of road projects while addressing concerns from affected communities.
The consultations come at a time when several road infrastructure initiatives are underway in the county, including works along the Luanda–Majengo corridor, where recent vegetation clearance activities undertaken in preparation for road improvement works elicited mixed reactions from some leaders and members of the public.
During the discussions, emphasis was placed on the importance of coordinated planning, public engagement, and intergovernmental cooperation to facilitate the successful execution of road projects while safeguarding public interests and ensuring compliance with established regulations.
Eng. Ingaiza reaffirmed KeNHA’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and resilient road networks that improve mobility, enhance connectivity, and stimulate socio-economic development across Vihiga County.
She noted that close collaboration with county leadership, security agencies, local administrators, and other stakeholders remains critical in ensuring infrastructure projects are implemented effectively and in a manner that benefits residents.
The County Government and National Government Administration welcomed the continued engagement, underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts in addressing infrastructure challenges and supporting the county’s development agenda through improved transport networks.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen the implementation of current and future road projects, paving the way for enhanced accessibility, trade, service delivery, and economic growth in Vihiga County.
