Kenya’s CASA humbles KCCA in men’s football final

Kenya’s County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) brushed off stiff opposition from neighbours Kampala County Council Authority (KCCA) to win 2-0 at the just concluded East Africa Legislators’ Sports Council Associations (EALASCA).

Defending champions KCCA and CASA played to a goalless draw in the first half as each side relentlessly tried to open the scoreline in the lunchtime duel played at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium-Kisumu.

After a delayed second half due to a heavy downpour, CASA broke the tie in the 53rd minute through their dependable player Isaac Nyakoya.

The introduction of Nyalenda A ward forward proved to be a game-changer, as, after a neat move against the run of play, he drilled in a fine rasping drive into the net leaving Uganda’s goalie well beaten.

As the rejuvenated Kenyan Honourables kept pouring forward, the defending champions KCCA succumbed to a second goal scored in the 65th minute by Adhalla Mdeka.

The indefatigable Mdeka proved his class by rounding off two defenders and the goalkeeper before crowning it with a sumptuous strike into the empty net sending the supporters into a frenzy.

Minutes later, CASA tapped in a third goal from a nicely curled free kick but they were adjudged to be offside.

Nyakoya attributed their win to adequate preparations during their trials in Kakamega and listening to their tactician Sunguti.

KCCA’s Captain Mark Nsobya said that they treated the match as more of a social cohesion to promote good neighborliness.

Affirming this position, Lord Mayor Salongo Erias Lukwago of Kampala who was the Chief Guest, emphasized that EALASCA rekindles the spirit of oneness in the East African community.

“These games continue to achieve lasting cross-border bondages and we thank the Kisumu county government for hosting this tournament, organizers and participants for the good performances,’’ he said through his representative Hon. Paul Mugembe.

The overall EALASCA games winner’s trophy was scooped by KICOSCA, runners-up (CASA) and KCCA came third.
