KHU hosts US scholars, broadens academic networks

Kenya Highlands University (KHU) in Kericho is hosting a delegation from Roberts Wesleyan University in an academic exchange programme, aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration, promoting cross-cultural learning and expanding opportunities for engagement between students and faculties from the two universities.

The delegation, led by Dr. Fanle Wei, was received by the KHU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Kiplangat, together with the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research and Student Affairs, Rev. Dr. Paul Lokol during a courtesy call at the University by the delegation.

Dr. Wei, who is accompanied by three students from the School of Business at Roberts Wesleyan University, is in the country for a week-long engagement that will involve interaction with lecturers, university administrators and students on matters touching on academics, student welfare, institutional management and campus life.

University officials said the visit forms part of the ongoing efforts to broaden academic networks and create platforms through which institutions of higher learning can share experiences, perspectives and approaches to university education.

The engagement is expected to give students and staff from both institutions an opportunity to learn from different academic environments, while fostering understanding on how universities can support teaching, research and student development in a changing global education landscape.

During their stay, the visiting delegation is scheduled to hold discussions with various departments within the university on admissions, finance, academic programmes and student affairs.

The interactions are also expected to expose students to diverse educational experiences and encourage scholarly engagement beyond the classroom.

The delegation toured the university’s facilities and interacted with members of the university community, as part of efforts to familiarize themselves with the institution’s learning environment and academic programmes.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Kiplangat noted that international academic exchanges remain important in enriching learning experiences and building relationships that can support future collaboration in research, mentorship and student engagement programmes.

“The visit reflects the growing emphasis by local universities on building partnerships that support academic excellence, cultural understanding and professional exposure for students and staff,” Prof. Kiplang’at observed.

In addition to the academic engagements, Dr. Wei addressed the university community during the Thursday Chapel Service, where he shared reflections based on Hebrews 11:1, focusing on faith and personal growth.

The delegation is expected to continue with a series of meetings and interactive sessions throughout the week as the two institutions explore areas of mutual academic interest and cooperation.
