Kiambu to deploy 500 POS devices to boost revenue collection

The Kiambu County Government is set to deploy 500 additional Point of Sale (POS) devices across various revenue collection points to improve efficiency and accountability in revenue collection.

According to a press statement  released by the Kiambu County Department of Finance and Economic Planning, the devices are currently being configured by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) officers under the county’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

In the statement, County Executive Committee Member for Finance Nancy Njeri Kirumba said the move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen digital revenue management and reduce revenue leakages.

She said the new POS devices will be used in different sectors where the county collects revenue, including parking fees, cess, quarry fees, market dues, slaughterhouse fees, veterinary service charges, regulatory fees, library services and tourism-related charges.

The digital devices will help automate revenue collection and make transactions faster and more transparent. The system is also expected to improve financial management by providing real-time monitoring of payments made across the county.

“The deployment of these devices will enhance transparency, accountability and efficiency in revenue collection across the county,’’ said Ms Kirumba.

She said by introducing more digital payment options, Kiambu aims to make it easier for residents and businesses to pay for county services while reducing the risks associated with cash handling.

The ERP system will allow county officers to track revenue collection from different locations instantly. This is expected to help identify any irregularities and ensure that all collected funds are accounted for.

The statement  noted that the rollout of the devices is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability in financial operations. Officials believe the initiative will contribute to increased revenue collection and support better planning and delivery of services to residents.

The county government hopes the project will strengthen its digital transformation agenda and support sustainable revenue growth.

The rollout of the 500 POS devices marks another step in Kiambu County’s efforts to modernise its operations through technology and improve public service delivery.
