KIE, Kiambu sign MoU to boost MSMEs

Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the County Government of Kiambu to strengthen enterprise development, industrialization and the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the county.

The signing ceremony marked a significant milestone in efforts to create an enabling environment for local entrepreneurs.

Speaking during the event, KIE Managing Director, Nelson Kwamini, highlighted the partnership’s potential to transform the county’s business landscape.

“The partnership will expand access to affordable financing, business incubation and enterprise development services creating an enabling environment for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and generate employment,” Kwamini said.

He reaffirmed KIE’s commitment to providing technical expertise to ensure successful implementation of the MOU initiatives.\

“We are dedicated to unlocking Kiambu’s entrepreneurial potential and driving sustainable economic growth,” he added.

The MOU is expected to facilitate greater collaboration in key areas including access to industrial sheds, business development support, skills training and market linkages for MSMEs. It aligns with broader national goals of decentralized industrialization and county-level economic empowerment.

This partnership builds on KIE’s ongoing engagements with various county governments across Kenya. By working closely with devolved units, KIE aims to foster inclusive growth, promote value addition in local enterprises, and create sustainable employment opportunities for residents.

County officials welcomed the collaboration, describing it as timely support for Kiambu’s vibrant entrepreneurial community.

The agreement is anticipated to catalyze new investments in agro-processing, manufacturing, and service sectors within the county.

The signing comes at a time when MSMEs continue to play a critical role in Kenya’s economy, contributing significantly to job creation and poverty reduction.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the KIE-Kiambu partnership will deliver tangible results for local businesses and the wider economy.

Kwamini was accompanied by KIE Managers, Charity Ndeke, Rev. Peter Rotich and Michael Njane.

The County Government of Kiambu was represented by County Secretary John M. Maingi, County Executive Committee Member for Trade Susan Gatwiri, Chief Officer Simon Kaberenge and other senior officials.
