Kilifi businessman demands payment from the DP

A Kilifi-based businessman James Muchemi Munene is demanding payment of Sh1.5 million for supplies of construction materials made to a hotel said to be associated with a senior politician in the country.
Munene who shared his plight with the media in Mombasa Monday said his attempts to get paid since August 2018 have been unsuccessful.
He said he supplied construction materials obtained from Tanzania for construction of the beach facility near the Indian Ocean.
Dolphin Hotel is being constructed on a 10-acre parcel in Shanzu area of Mombasa at an estimated cost of Sh 600 million. The construction has been ongoing for the last three years
“Payments for supplied materials were to be made by Jubilee party coast region coordinator Farid Swaleh who is in charge of the suppliers,” said Munene.
Munene said several attempts to reach Swaleh were unsuccessful as all his mobile phones are perpetually switched off with reports indicating that he now lives in Dubai.
“This is unfair and exploitation since some banks where I took loans are on my neck,” he said waving a pile of documents and correspondences.
He said with the economic crisis brought about by the coronavirus pandemic life was becoming unbearable for his business and now wants his dues paid.
