A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders have told the Opposition to “read the signs” from the latest by-elections and brace for what they termed a resounding defeat in the 2027 General Election.
Led by Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, the lawmakers said the outcome of the recently concluded by-elections demonstrates that Kenyans have confidence in President William Ruto’s administration and its development agenda.
Speaking after United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates swept all the contested MCA seats in Embu County”,”Kenya”], Isiolo County and Kakamega County, Ichung’wah said the strength of any political party is measured by its performance at the ballot.
“The people have spoken clearly. The strength of a political party is tested and proven during elections. UDA garnered all the seats in the just-concluded by-elections, and that is a strong statement from Kenyans,” he said.
He argued that the results show voters are rejecting what he described as politics of insults and empty rhetoric, and instead backing leaders focused on tangible development.
“The writing is on the wall. Kenyans do not want politics of abuses and nothing to show for it. They want development and leaders who deliver,” he added, noting that the Opposition had also failed to secure significant victories in by-elections held in November last year.
He was speaking during the issuance of Sh72.9 million worth of bursary to students from Juja Constituency at Theta area today.
Among those present were Gathoni Wamuchomba, Sylvanus Osoro, George Koimburi, and Ann Wamuratha, among others.
Wamuchomba and Koimburi, who recently rejoined the government side after months of sharp criticism, said they do not regret their decision if it means unlocking development for their constituents.
Wamuchomba said her priority remains ensuring Githunguri residents benefit from national government projects and services, adding that political differences should not stand in the way of development.
Koimburi added that aligning with the government would enable his constituency to benefit from key initiatives, including the Affordable Housing Programme under the Nyota project, as well as other national government programmes.
“At least now my area will benefit from affordable housing under Nyota and several other government projects,” he said.
The MPs maintained that the by-elections served as a mini referendum on the government’s performance, arguing that the victories signal sustained grassroots support for President Ruto’s policies ahead of 2027.
