Makueni county governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has imposed a sixty day immediate ban on sand harvesting in Kilome sub county.
Mutula issued the directive through an Executive Order he signed on October 1, 2025 and released to the media.
Consequently, the governor has tasked Makueni Sand Conservation and Utilization Authority (MSCUA) to reorganize sand operations and ensure full compliance within the specified period in the area.
The ban follows sustained public outcry over unregulated sand harvesting in Kilome sub county.
