The County Government of Makueni has recruited 60 graduates as interns under cohort nine of its internship programme, with each expected to serve for one year in various county departments.
Acting Chief Officer in the Department of Education, ICT and Internship, Damaris Makau, said the interns were selected from the county’s 30 wards, with two graduates drawn from each ward.
Makau spoke on Friday during the induction of the interns at the Makueni Integrated Vocational and Education Centre in Wote Town, Makueni Sub-County.
She said the recruits comprised graduates, diploma and certificate holders who had completed various courses, including Law, Procurement, Environment and Engineering Plant Operation.
“Students have graduated from various universities in the past two years. We have recruited graduates, diploma and certificate holders whom we will place in different departments,” Makau said.
She said the programme was designed to equip young people with practical skills and workplace experience, while enhancing their preparedness for career opportunities.
“The interns will gain hands-on exposure within the county government while developing professional competencies that can support their transition into employment career pathways,” she added.
Makau challenged the interns to work hard, maintain discipline and leave a positive mark during their one-year engagement with the county government.
She urged them to uphold integrity, patriotism, transparency and accountability as they discharge their duties in their respective departments.
The interns are expected to report to their workstations on September 15, 2026.
One of the beneficiaries, Fridah Mwanthi, said the interns were looking forward to gaining professional skills and experience that would improve their chances of securing employment.
“We expect to learn and grow professionally because we would love to get skills that will help us in getting jobs,” Mwanthi said.
