Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has criticized the people of Mt. Kenya region for being ungrateful to the government despite receiving a significant share of cabinet slots and other high-ranking appointments.
He said it was unfortunate that the vote-rich region had chosen to repay the goodwill by championing the “One Term” and “Ruto Must Go” slogans, despite benefiting from eight Cabinet Secretary positions.
Speaking after attending a church service at ACK Mayori in Mbeere South Constituency, Senator Mundigi dismissed the slogans as empty rhetoric and accused the region of political mischief.
He expressed confidence that President William Ruto would clinch another term in 2027, noting that most regions across the country remained firmly behind him.
“Western, Nyanza, Coast, Rift Valley, and North Eastern Regions are solidly behind President Ruto. It is only in Mt. Kenya where we are having a challenge,” he remarked.
Mundigi defended the President’s track record, citing efforts to stabilize the economy, initiate development projects nationwide, and create employment opportunities both locally and abroad.
At the same time, he urged Mt. Kenya not to be swayed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whom he accused of behaving like a “jilted lover.”
He claimed Gachagua was attempting to isolate the region from the government due to bitterness over his impeachment.
The senator further cautioned Mt. Kenya East residents against joining their counterparts in the West in opposing the administration. He said the eastern side of the region had historically been marginalized in development but had begun witnessing meaningful progress under President Ruto’s leadership.
“Those from the West who want us to follow them already have an elaborate tarmac road network, water projects, and electricity connectivity, unlike us here in the East,” he argued.
Mundigi urged unity and continued support for the government, saying this would ensure more equitable development across the region.
