Busia County Director of Education, Mary Oichoe, has announced that the county has prepared over 70,000 candidates to sit for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).
Speaking in Butula Sub County on Saturday, Oichoe said that 23,887 candidates will sit for KPSEA within the county. “I want to thank you greatly for presenting more than 23,000 learners to sit for KJSEA this year,” she added.
She further noted that over 18,000 students will sit for the KCSE examinations, expressing confidence that many of them will qualify to join universities and other institutions of higher learning.
The Principal Administrative Secretary in the Office of the President, Arthur Osiya, expressed concern over the county’s past performance in national examinations, noting that improvement efforts were underway.
“I want to promise you that every opportunity we get will be used to support the education sector,” he said.
Mumias Sub County KUPPET Executive Secretary, Cyprian Mukamami, urged the Ministry of Education to pay teachers involved in the national examinations promptly after the exercise.
“We will invigilate, supervise, mark, and prepare results, and it would be unfair to tell teachers that there is no money,” he stated.
