Police in Machakos County have arrested one of their own after he was implicated of allegedly raping of a female suspect.
According to the local county commander, Karanja Muiruri the rogue junior officer who is attached to Kikesa patrol base in Yatta Sub County is locked up in Matuu police station awaiting arraignment in court to answer to sexual offence charges.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Mr. Muiruri said the suspected policeman was caught in the act by colleagues after he forcefully dragged the woman to his house nearby. The woman had been summoned to the station to respond to allegations that she was involved in a case of a stolen goat.
“He was caught in the act having coerced the helpless lady,” Muiruri told the media.
He added that medical examinations done at the Matuu Level 4 hospital where the woman had been taken had confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.
The police boss said that due to the on-going anti-corona measures, his office had contacted the area magistrate who has agreed to hear the case on Monday next week.
He warned police officers who abuse their position that the service will not tolerate them. He similarly urged the public to treat wayward officers who commit crimes as individual criminals instead of blaming the entire National Police Service.
