Kakamega Governor, Fernandes Barasa, has said the County is close to completing the long-stalled Shamakhubu Level 4 hospital, a project expected to significantly improve healthcare services in the area.
He said the facility which stalled in 2015, is among key projects inherited by the County government and prioritized for completion, to ensure residents benefit from public investments.
“We are making steady progress on Shamakhubu Level 4 hospital, which stalled in 2015. Once completed, this facility will significantly enhance healthcare services for the people of Shinyalu Sub-county and beyond,” Barasa said.
The Governor noted that the completion of the Hospital will reduce the distance residents travel to access quality medical care, while easing pressure on the Kakamega County General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Speaking, yesterday, in Matungu, Barasa said reviving stalled projects remains a core priority of his Administration adding the effort aimed at improving service delivery. “Our focus is on completing what was left unfinished. We are also on track to complete other inherited stalled projects across the County,” he said.
He added that the County has strengthened project supervision and funding mechanisms, to prevent further delays and ensure value for money.
Once operational, Shamakhubu Level 4 hospital is expected to offer inpatient, maternity, diagnostic and emergency services, thus, having essential healthcare services closer to thousands of residents.
Local leaders and residents have welcomed the progress, expressing optimism that the facility will soon be operational and improve health outcomes in Shinyalu and neighboring areas.
