Interior Principaly (PS) Raymond Omollo has reiterated the government’s commitment to resolve the mystery surrounding the murder of Kasipul legislator Ongondo Were.
He urged Kenyans to be patient and allow the criminal justice system to take its course to a logical conclusion and unravel the motive of the cold-blooded killing of the politicians in Nairobi last.
“Let’s remain calm and avoid rumors as the suspects behind the gruesome murder will face the full force of the law,” Omollo said.
Speaking when he met youths in Rangwe constituency, the PS called on leaders and politicians in Homa Bay county to preach peace and prioritize development of the county.
He urged politicians to desist from propagating the culture of intolerance and political violence.
Kasipul and Ndhiwa constituencies in Homa Bay have been the hotbed of violence due to rivalry of politicians.
Omollo said that political differences should not be used to cause chaos and injuries in the two constituencies.
The PS said Ndhiwa and Kasipul constituencies have been notorious for violence.
“We cannot use violence as the currency for transacting politics because at the end of the day we will only be counting injuries and loss of property. We must maintain peace so that our people can benefit from development,” the PS said.
The Interior PS statement comes in the wake of calls by a number of political leaders allied to the ODM party demanding speedy investigations into the murder of MP Ong’ondo Were.
Last week, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Minority Whip in the National Assembly Millie Odhiambo, Senator Moses Kajwang and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma called for thorough investigations into Ongondo Were’s death.
Wanga said the agreement which was signed between their party and Kenya Kwanza was meant to bring security and unity to the country.
