Turbo MP Janet Sitienei has called for stricter enforcement of law to prevent crowds from gathering or siphoning fuel at the tanker accident scenes, following the deadly fire at Juakali in Turbo Sub County.
Sitienei made the appeal after visiting victims at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, the legislator revealed 19 people injured in the incident remain admitted, with nine in the general wards and ten in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“We must take tougher action to keep members of the public, especially young people, away from fuel tanker accident scenes,” Sitienei said, adding, “Rushing to such sites puts lives at risk of fire and explosions. It is not worth it.”
The MP also urged support for families affected by the blaze, noting several of them lost valuable personal items, including identity cards and mobile phones, in the chaos.
“Several victims lost their IDs and phones. We call on well-wishers and authorities to assist them as they recover,” she added.
The fire, which broke out last Thursday around 9:00pm after a fuel tanker incident, left multiple casualties and has drawn renewed focus on public safety around such accidents.
