Members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly have praised the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works for its transparency in project planning, implementation, and prudent utilization of public resources.
The commendation follows a rigorous accountability session when Roads officials appeared before the Committee of the Whole House on Tuesday, where they presented plans and expenditure reports for the 2025/2026 Financial Year.
The session, chaired by Roads Committee Chairperson Gilbert Chepkonga and co-chaired by Francis Muya, also brought together officials from the Finance Department, led by Roads County Executive Committee Member Abraham Serem, Chief Officer for Finance Eliud Kipkorir, and Chief Officer for Roads Geoffrey Tanui, who responded to a barrage of questions raised by members.
Speaking during the session, Chairperson Chepkonga lauded the department’s approach, stating, “The openness we have witnessed in planning and execution has been key to efficient resource utilization and high performance under Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s administration. We are pleased to report satisfactory execution of road projects across all 30 wards.”
The co-chair Muya added, “We urge the department to maintain this trajectory of accountability. The prudent use of public funds is non-negotiable, and we are encouraged by what we have seen today.”
The MCAs commended the officers for their exemplary work while urging them to sustain the high standards set.
In response, the Roads CECM assured members of the department’s commitment to service delivery.
“We appreciate this recognition from the Assembly. Our focus remains on delivering quality infrastructure that benefits every resident of Uasin Gishu County, and we will continue to operate with the highest level of transparency,” remarked Serem.
At the same time, the department outlined its El Nino preparedness initiatives, including opening up drainages, grading and gravelling of access roads, and servicing of road machinery.
Chief Officer for Roads Geoffrey Tanui explained, “We are taking proactive measures to ensure our roads remain passable and emergency response is not hampered when the country experiences the anticipated heavy rains. Our machinery is ready, and our teams are on high alert.
The department’s proactive approach was welcomed by members, who noted that such preparedness was critical to safeguarding residents during the upcoming rainy season.
