Uasin Gishu road contractors assured timely payments in new strategy

The Uasin Gishu County Department for Roads has put in place strategic measures aimed at eliminating delays and ensuring contractors’ timely payment.

The move is aimed at restoring confidence among local contractors and fast-tracking the completion of stalled infrastructure projects across the county.

As part of these efforts, the County Chief Officer for Roads, Geoffrey Tanui, on

Wednesday at his county office held a consultative meeting with county road engineers to address the long-time delays and improve operational efficiency across the department’s procurement and financial pipelines.

Some of the issues to be addressed to make this strategy successful include; collaboration with the Finance Department, ensuring contractors understand the steps required in the current payment system, proper evaluation and documentation, a list of completed and ongoing projects in the department and clear communication on every step taken between the department, procurement section, and contractors.

Speaking during the meeting, Tanui emphasized the need for absolute transparency and structural efficiency, affirming that the devolved unit is keen on fostering a smooth working relationship with local contractors.

“I would like every one of you to do a follow-up to ensure contractors follow all the steps required in the new system to effectively complete the tendering process,” Tanui urged the engineers.
