The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Election Board Chairperson, Anthony Mwaura, has assured party members that the grassroots leadership elections scheduled for January 2026, will be free and fair.
Mr. Mwaura who was speaking during a delegates’ meeting held in Murang’a on Monday, December 15, said the party has put in place adequate measures, to ensure the exercise, slated for January 10, is credible and transparent.
He said members will elect representatives to spearhead the party’s grassroots agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election, in which UDA plans to field candidates for all elective positions.
“I am assuring members that the grassroots leadership elections will be transparent and that there should be no fear of interference from other leaders.” Mwaura said.
He added that allowing members to freely choose their leaders would make coordination of party affairs at the grassroots level easier and more effective.
Mwaura urged residents of the Mt Kenya region to rally behind UDA and its leadership, warning them against being misled into joining the opposition. “This party was born and nurtured in this region, and we must therefore own it and support the government of the day because we are part of it,” he said.
He expressed confidence that UDA would win the 2027 General Election, giving the current administration another term to continue serving Kenyans.
Leaders from Murang’a County who attended the meeting, led by Woman Representative, Betty Maina, Maragua Member of Parliament, Mary Wamaua and nominated Senator, Veronica Maina, praised the government for what they termed as significant development achievements.
“We are not supporting the President simply because he has asked us to do so, but because we have seen the work he is doing for the people,” the Women Representative said.
She dismissed claims by the opposition that the government has done nothing, saying the assertions were misleading.
Maragua Member of Parliament (MP), Mary Wamaua, urged residents to register as UDA members and to reach-out to those who had defected to other parties, saying strong membership numbers would boost the party’s performance at the polls.
“We are urging residents to register as party members and encourage others to join because we need the numbers during elections,” Wamaua said.
She added that the party aims to strengthen its structures and secure a landslide victory in the 2027 General Election.
The leaders vowed to continue supporting the government, saying they had worked hard to secure its victory and must remain in government, to ensure Murang’a residents benefit from development programmes.
