Vihiga County is exploring opportunities to digitise participatory processes in a move aimed at enhancing efficiency, citizen responsiveness and service delivery.
Governor Dr Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo said the county will leverage existing digital infrastructure and expertise to develop innovative tools that can improve service delivery across various departments.
Ottichilo spoke at the Vihiga County Headquarters during a meeting with World Bank Citizen Engagement Consultant Rose Wanjiru, who led discussions on the digitisation of manual tools and workflow processes.
The engagement builds on previous support by the World Bank to the county in digitising the Participatory Climate Risk Assessment (PCRA) processes.
With the Whole County Approach now in place, the World Bank is seeking to support Vihiga in exploring ways of digitising manual tools and workflows across different departments.
The Governor noted that Vihiga already has an established Geospatial Technology Systems (GTS) framework and a strong Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department, providing a foundation for the digital transformation initiative.
He said the county would also use the digital platform to strengthen knowledge management and performance management across departments.
“The County will explore the digital platform and leverage the capacities we already have to develop innovative tools that will improve service delivery,” said Ottichilo.
The meeting brought together County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), who were taken through the platform and briefed on the progress made so far.
The participants also discussed a roadmap for inclusive capacity building to ensure that all county departments are adequately equipped to adopt and effectively use the digital tools.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen citizen participation in governance, streamline county workflows, improve institutional efficiency and enhance the delivery of services to residents.
