Murang’a residents urged to turn up and welcome President Ruto

Leaders in Muranga have called upon residents of the County to turn-up in large numbers to welcome President William Ruto’s during his visit scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026.

Led by Lands Cabinet Secretary (CS), Alice Wahome, the leaders urged wananchi to be calm and peaceful, noting that the County has benefited from several development projects under the current Administration.

The leaders reiterated the need for residents to support the President’s development agenda, warning that lack of cooperation could hinder progress at the grassroots level.

Speaking during a women empowerment programme at Mbiri Primary School grounds in Kiharu, Wahome said the government has lined-up major projects for commissioning during the Presidential tour, including Affordable Housing and modern markets valued at over Sh. 27 billion.

“In this County, the government has set-aside funds for the construction of modern markets such as Kambirwa and Kayole, which are already underway. Affordable housing projects have also made significant progress,” she said.

She cautioned residents against being incited, urging them to support ongoing development initiatives.

“Let us not be misled or incited against the government and the projects currently underway. These initiatives are meant to improve livelihoods,” she added.

Sports Principal Secretary (PS), Elijah Mwangi, said the youth in Murang’a stand to benefit from government investments, including the construction of two international-standard stadia, with a capacity of 10,000 seats each.

“These facilities will provide a platform for nurturing and developing talent among our young people,” he said, citing projects such as Mirira Sports Academy and Mumbi Stadium.

Murang’a Woman Representative, Betty Maina, dismissed opposition leaders, accusing them of engaging in premature campaigns and incitement.

“We are focused on delivering development projects to wananchi. There is still time before the official campaign period, and we urge leaders to allow the government to work and deliver development,” she said.

She emphasised that hate speech and incitement have no place in society and called for unity and responsible leadership.

Communications Authority of Kenya Chairman, Charles Karondo, urged responsible use of digital platforms, noting that while freedom of information and association must be upheld, citizens should exercise caution in how they use social media.

“Our systems will not be used to interfere with democratic rights, but we must ensure responsible use of ICT to guarantee credible processes and real-time access to accurate information,” he said.

During the event, women groups received financial support in the form of cheques to boost their businesses, as part of ongoing empowerment programmes in the county.

President Ruto is expected to tour various parts of Murang’a County on Friday where he will launch and commission key development projects.
