President Ruto, former President Uhuru led thousands of mourners for Raila’s final send-off Requiem Service

President Dr. William Ruto and former President joined thousands of Kenyans from all walks of life, on Sunday morning, at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology in Bondo, for the final funeral service of the late former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

The former Premier who died, Wednesday, October 15, 2025, aged 80, occasioned by cardiac arrest, while receiving treatment in India, will be buried later in the day at his Opoda Farm home in Bondo, Siaya County, in a private burial ceremony, which, according to CS Kipchumba Murkomen, will see about 500 mourners attend.

The crowds drawn from all over the country, most of whom were dressed in orange and black, began streaming in as from Friday, have remained focused on the main course, which is to witness the historic solemn occasion and to give Baba a deserving send-off.

“We are here to show Baba Raila, final respect. For the last three days, we have been awake as most of us could not even eat, when we received the news of his demise,” said mourners.

Security has been tightened across Bondo, particularly at the University and at the family’s graveyard, Kang’o Kajaramogi, where Raila will be laid to rest, in a private ceremony.
