Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka hosted Form Four students and teachers from HGM Ting’ang’a Secondary School at the parliament buildings.
The group had the opportunity to follow the afternoon sitting from the Speaker’s Gallery, where they observed debates and legislative processes firsthand.
The educational visit was organized to expose learners to the workings of parliament and deepen their understanding of how laws are made and national issues debated.
Waithaka emphasized the importance of such initiatives in complementing classroom learning and inspiring civic responsibility among young people.
He noted that observing parliamentary debates helps students appreciate the role of legislators in representing citizens, drafting laws and overseeing government functions.
“I am confident that the lessons and insights gained from this visit will go a long way in shaping their future aspirations, enhancing their academic pursuits, and preparing them to become informed and responsible citizens. Yangu Ni Kazi Tu, Waithaka said.
Teachers accompanying the students expressed appreciation for the visit, noting its relevance to subjects such as history, government, and social studies. They lauded the initiative, saying it would motivate learners to aspire to leadership roles and contribute positively to society.
The visit will help efforts to nurture future leaders by instilling values of democracy, accountability, and civic engagement.
