The government will soon table a proposal in Parliament seeking to establish a National Infrastructure Fund aimed at mobilizing resources for the completion of stalled projects and construction of new roads across the country.
President William Ruto said the Fund will help address the growing concerns from Kenyans over poor road networks. He said that a robust infrastructure system is critical to driving economic growth.
“We have a plan as a government, and we will soon go to Parliament to establish the National Infrastructure Fund to ensure we complete and build enough roads across the country,” the President said.
The Head of State added that the government targets to develop at least 10,000 km of road network in a bid to enhance connectivity, boost trade and open up rural areas for investment.
“The fund will help us raise about shillings Sh1.5 trillion to finance key projects that will transform our transport network and strengthen the country’s economic foundation,” he stated.
The Head of State emphasized that the new initiative will provide a structured and sustainable approach to financing infrastructure development thus reducing reliance on external borrowing.
President Ruto spoke yesterday in Butere during his development tour of the area where he was accompanied by several leaders including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and area MP Tindi Mwale among others.
He assured Kenyans that the government is committed to ensuring every region benefits from improved infrastructure to spur inclusive national development.
