KIWASCO engages residents on improved sanitation

Kiambu Water and Sewerage Company Limited (KIWASCO) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to clean water and reliable sanitation services through enhanced public engagement with residents across Kiambu Municipality.

The forum brought together residents, community leaders, church members, Kiambu Water and Sewerage Company (KIWASCO) officials, and stakeholders such as the Water Service Regulatory Board (WASREB), providing an opportunity for consumers to raise concerns, seek clarification on service delivery, and receive updates on current and planned water projects.

Speaking during a public engagement forum held at ACK St. James Cathedral in Kiambu Town, company officials highlighted ongoing efforts to improve water distribution, strengthen customer service, and address challenges affecting water supply within the municipality.

“Our main aim is to ensure that residents across Ting’ang’a, Riabai, Ndumberi and Kiambu towns get easy access to water supply. Through our efforts we are trying to ensure that the water is affordable and of good quality. Nonetheless, we have set the 2026/2029 tariff to ensure that funds given by the government meet the goals we are implementing,” said KIWASCO Managing Director Boniface Mbugua.

Residents expressed concerns over intermittent water supply, sewerage connectivity, billing, and response times to reported faults. In response, company officials assured customers that measures are being implemented to improve operational efficiency, reduce service interruptions, and enhance communication with consumers.

“We are grateful for the tremendous work being done, but we are urging the officials to offer more job opportunities such as plumbing, construction and engineering to young youths in our communities. Not forgetting, the KIWASCO officer should look into our drainage systems as a way of ensuring the environment is kept clean,” said Thomas Wamuyu, a resident in Kiambu town.

The officials also encouraged residents to report leakages, illegal water connections, and vandalism of water infrastructure, noting that public cooperation plays a critical role in ensuring sustainable water and sanitation services.

The company further emphasized the importance of conserving water, paying water bills promptly, and protecting public infrastructure to enable continued investment in expanding access to safe and reliable water services.

The engagement forms part of KIWASCO’s ongoing customer outreach program aimed at strengthening collaboration with the communities it serves while promoting transparency and accountability in service delivery.

Residents welcomed the initiative, saying such forums provide a platform for direct interaction with service providers and help address challenges affecting households and businesses.

KIWASCO reiterated that it will continue holding similar public engagement forums as it works towards improving customer satisfaction and ensuring every resident has access to quality water and sanitation services.
