Construction of three kilometers road linking Lodwar to Nakwamekwi starts

By P, KNA

Residents of Nakwamewi can heave a sigh of relief after the Turkana County Government handed over site for the construction of a three-kilometre road linking Nakwamekwi to Lodwar business centre.

The County Executive Committee Member for Roads and Public Works Benson Lokwang said the road is part of a phased upgrade for roads in Lodwar, for which the county government has allocated Sh188 million.

“We have handed over the site, and the contractor can now begin work. The road will not only connect the two areas but also change the outlook of Lodwar,” CECM Lokwang said.

Lokwang added that the county government is committed to improving livelihoods by building new roads and upgrading existing ones.

Chief Officer for Roads, Cecilia Etaan said the contractor is required to work closely with the department and provide regular progress reports.

This is the second major road project in Lodwar in the last two years, following the completion of the CBD roads mid last year.

The new road will start from Nakwamekwi through Kenya Red Cross, Apostolic Church, and finally end in Lodwar Town.

The Lodwar Municipality Manager Benjamin Tukei, Assistant Director for Urban Areas Management David Edoket and Roads Director Simon Nakucho, witnessed the handover.
