Property owners in Uasin Gishu County have been urged to avoid channeling excess rainwater from buildings directly to roads, warning that the practice significantly damages road infrastructure.
Through the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works, the County Executive for Roads, Abraham Serem, cautioned that runoff water weakens the soil beneath road surfaces, especially during the rainy season.
This often leads to cracking under the weight of traffic and the formation of deep, hazardous potholes.
Consequently, on Tuesday Serem led a team of county engineers in repair works along sections of the busy Farmers Street in Eldoret. The team filled and compacted damaged sections, where large potholes had developed due to water seepage.
He assured business owners operating along the street that the county administration is engaging development partners to facilitate the tarmacking of key roads within the city.
Serem cited the recently completed Barngetuny–Bandaptai road as an example of the county’s commitment to improving the overall road infrastructure in the area.
