Khwisero court opens, launches Mediation Registry

Residents of Khwisero Sub-County have welcomed the inauguration of the Khwisero Law Courts and the official launch of the Mediation Registry, describing it as a major milestone in improving access to justice at the grassroots.

The inaugural sitting marked the commencement of court services within the sub-county, sparing residents the long and costly journeys to courts in neighbouring areas.

The Mediation Registry will provide an alternative dispute resolution mechanism aimed at settling cases amicably, faster, and at a lower cost.

Speaking during the event, Khwisero Member of Parliament Christopher Aseka said the establishment of the court fulfilled the Judiciary’s commitment under the Social Transformation through Access to Justice (STAJ) programme.

“The presence of a court in Khwisero will enhance access to justice, reduce travel costs for litigants, and help in clearing case backlogs through mediation,” said the MP.

He urged residents to embrace mediation as a peaceful and efficient way of resolving disputes, noting that it promotes harmony within the community.

He added that the Mediation Registry will expedite case clearance while decongesting courts, allowing judicial officers to focus on more complex matters. The initiative also aligns with the Judiciary’s objective of having a court in every sub-county.

Residents expressed joy and optimism, saying the court would save time and resources while restoring confidence in the justice system. “This is a big relief for us. Justice has finally come closer to the people,” said one resident.

The launch was marked by celebrations and strong public support, signalling a new chapter in accessible and efficient justice for the community.
