Homabay County Governor Gladys Wanga has encouraged the youth to pursue their dreams, reflecting on the life and times of the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“What I have learnt of the life of Raila Odinga and I know each one of us has probably learnt something is that we should never give up easily,” Wanga said.
She said the departed former premier, was a resilient man, who never gave up, even in his very last moments, where he articulated great plans for the country.
“Raila Odinga remained persistent despite encountering numerous obstacles in his long political journey,” Wanga said.
The governor further emphasized that our dreams will always remain valid till they are buried, citing Raila’s five unsuccessful presidential contests, as an example of remarkable perseverance.
“Never stop dreaming because the moment you stop dreaming you are dead, that’s something I have learnt, that something I want to tell our young people,” said Wanga, in statement read on her behalf by the County secretary Benard Mwok, during County Mashujaa day celebrations held at Agoro Sare primary school in Kasipul constituency.
The governor shared with the young people present, some of whom were preparing for KCSE exams, noting that a number will of them will procced to university, while others will stop at form 4, should they thinking that was the end of the world.
Wanga reminded them that Raila Odinga, who never became the country’s president, was now being celebrated globally, as the people’s president.
She quoted President Dr. William Ruto who had stated, “Odinga’s unwavering determination and unwavering commitment to his people’s interests have earned him the respect and recognition of the world.
“We should never give upon whatever we put our mind on,” reiterated the governor.
The governor said she will ensure the spirit of the late Raila Odinga is immortalized through development programmes that will make the people realize the fruits of devolution and democracy that the former premier fought for.
Inspired by the spirit of Raila Odinga, we are going to work for the people, so that the national development that Baba envisioned and his dream of devolution is achieved, she added.
