Nairobi based businessman Michael Otieno ‘Japolo’ has challenged the wrangling leadership of Homa Bay County to amicably resolve their differences for the sake of residents.
He urged Homabay governor Gladys Wanga and her deputy Oyugi Magwanga to stop feuding and give room for provision of services they swore to accord the residents arguing that their enduring beef was derailing development prospects in the county.
Otieno said it was in bad taste for governor Wanga to reassign his deputy the county executive committee member (CECM) role simply because the shared divergent positions in the just concluded Kasipul by-election.
“Even after fallout from the recent by-election campaign and outcome in Kasipul constituency, they can still iron out their differences and work together to deliver services to the residents” He said.
The Nairobi businessman, fondly referred to as Japolo by residents and who has declared interest to run for the Kabondo Kasipul constituency national assembly seat in the year 2027, said it is not hard for the two leaders to make amends to end the differences now that the election is over
The two county leaders supported different candidates during the by-election in Kasipul constituency, “What the people of Homabay now want are services not persistent bickering,” he said
The businessman said it’s only through a harmonious working relationship that the two county executives can enable accelerated economic growth and development in the county through better services to the people
Michael Otieno was speaking during an event where he was blessed by the elders from his Kodhoch clan in Keriany village in readiness to vie for the Kabondo Kasipul MP seat when time comes.
Governor Wanga had earlier announced changes to her county executive committee members.
In an executive order issued Monday, governor Wanga relieved his deputy from the position of CEC for Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
Other changes include dismissal of Dr Peter Ogolla, CEC for Lands, Physical planning, Housing and urban development.
The governor said the Dr. Ogola was dismissed as provided for in section 35(a) of the county government act.
Mr Danish Onyango has been reassigned to take over the docket for Roads, Public works, Transport and Infrastructure and also to act as CEC for Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
Mr Joseph Mitito who hails from Homabay town was nominated take up the CEC for Lands, Physical planning, Housing and urban development.
The governor in a statement said the changes are aimed at enhancing service delivery and ensuring efficiency in her administration.
She directed the county secretary to oversee a smooth handover.
