Narok County has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare services by accelerating the recruitment of health professionals following the swearing-in of Collins Saruni as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Narok County Public Service Board.
Speaking during the ceremony held at the County Assembly, the Governor, Mr. Patrick Ntutu said the appointment comes at a critical time when the county is expanding healthcare infrastructure and addressing staffing shortages that have affected service delivery.
The County boss noted that the county government will work closely with the County Public Service Board to fast-track the recruitment of more than 200 health workers, a move expected to stabilize healthcare services and improve access to quality medical care across the county.
He said the county administration remains committed to providing the board with the financial, administrative and institutional support required to undertake a transparent and efficient recruitment process.
According to the governor, filling the vacant positions will ensure that newly constructed health facilities are fully operational and adequately staffed.
Over the past few years, the County has invested heavily in healthcare infrastructure, constructing more than 100 health facilities, including dispensaries and maternity wings, to bring essential medical services closer to residents.
However, the expansion has created an increased demand for qualified healthcare professionals to meet the growing needs of communities across the county.
Mr. Ntutu acknowledged that although the county requires an even larger workforce, budgetary constraints have necessitated a phased recruitment approach.
Even so, he expressed confidence that the planned recruitment will significantly ease pressure on existing staff and improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery.
Beyond hiring new personnel, the County Public Service Board is expected to oversee the confirmation of officers who have been serving in acting capacities across various county departments.
The exercise is intended to strengthen institutional stability, boost staff morale, and enhance professionalism within the county public service.
Governor Ntutu also announced that the board will soon advertise positions for more than 200 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers, describing the recruitment drive as part of the county’s broader agenda to improve service delivery in key sectors, including health and education.
In his address, Mr Saruni pledged to uphold integrity, professionalism, and accountability in the execution of his duties.
He committed to ensuring that recruitment processes are fair, merit-based, and guided by the Constitution and public service values.
County Assembly leaders who attended the ceremony described Saruni as a dedicated public servant whose experience and commitment have earned him the confidence of both the executive and the assembly.
They expressed optimism that his leadership will strengthen the Public Service Board’s capacity to attract and retain competent professionals for county institutions.
The recruitment of additional health workers is expected to enhance patient care, reduce staff shortages, improve emergency response, and ensure that residents receive timely medical services closer to their homes.
By aligning workforce expansion with the county’s growing health infrastructure, Narok aims to build a resilient healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of its rapidly growing population.
The county government has maintained that investing in skilled personnel remains central to achieving universal access to quality healthcare, with the strengthened partnership between the executive and the County Public Service Board expected to play a key role in delivering better health outcomes for the people of Narok.
