Residents of Kiambururu and surrounding areas in Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County, are set to benefit from improved access to security services following the commissioning of a new police post in the area.
The facility was commissioned by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who said the project was part of efforts to respond to the security needs of residents and bring essential government services closer to the people.
Wamuchomba said public projects should address the needs of the communities they are intended to serve, adding, “Residents remain at the centre of development initiatives.”
The MP said the completed facility had been handed over to the local security team, allowing officers to begin using it to serve members of the public.
The project was funded through the Githunguri National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
According to the Githunguri NG-CDF Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended June 30, 2024, the project had an original budget of Sh3 million, which was adjusted upwards by Sh2.607 million, bringing the final budget to Sh5.607 million.
The NG-CDF approved projects document indicates that the additional funding was allocated for completion of a 91-square-metre police post comprised of two cells, a toilet, two offices, an ensuite, armoury, and ramp and drainage connection.
James Mburu,a resident of Kiamothai welcomed the completion of the facility, saying it would make it easier for residents to access police services within the area.
The availability of the facility will also provide a closer point of contact between members of the public and security officers.
Wamuchomba urged residents to work closely with the security team and make use of the facility, saying cooperation between the community and security agencies was important in maintaining safety.
The commissioning marks the completion of a security infrastructure project that has been implemented through NG-CDF funding, with the facility now available for use by the local security team.
