Preparations for the 2026 UN Tourism Week and World Tourism Day celebrations intensified at the University of Eldoret on Thursday, as Principal Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Amb. Prof. Julius Kibet Bitok inspected arrangements for the events culminating on Sunday.
Bitok was received by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot.
The Principal Secretary is scheduled to be the chief guest at the Agro-Tourism programme on Friday, one of the key activities of the week-long programme.
“The University of Eldoret has put in place solid arrangements that reflect Kenya’s growing stature in sustainable tourism,” Bitok said after the inspection.
He further observed: “We are confident the celebrations will showcase the depth of our tourism offerings and strengthen partnerships across the sector.”
Prof. Cheruiyot said the institution was honoured to host the national events. “Hosting the UN Tourism Week and World Tourism Day allows us to demonstrate how academia, communities and industry can work together to drive tourism growth,” he said.
“Our Charter Grounds are open to the public, and we invite Kenyans to experience the exhibitions,” the VC added.
The Charter Grounds are hosting exhibitions featuring tourism products, innovations, cultural displays, enterprises and community-based initiatives drawn from across the region.
University officials said the exhibitions will remain open as the countdown to Sunday’s climax continues, urging visitors to engage with exhibitors and celebrate the diversity and potential of Kenya’s tourism sector.
