Borehole Commissioned to address water shortages in Gatundu South

Residents of Githombokoni Ward in Gatundu South, Kiambu County are set to enjoy uninterrupted water supply following the launch of construction of a new borehole project in the area.

The initiative marks a significant step forward by Kiambu County in the ongoing efforts in ensuring that the local community has access to dependable clean and safe water.

The County Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources, Energy and Climate Change is currently overseeing the project at the Gacege ECDE grounds and upon completion, it will serve at least one thousand households in the neighborhood significantly easing local water scarcity.

Chronic water shortage in Githombokoni has forced residents to travel long distances in search of clean water. The water challenges are especially worsened during drought seasons therefore hindering the quality of life and economic stability in the region.

County officials have highlighted this project as a broader strategy aimed at streamlining water infrastructure across the region. By providing a dependable, year-round supply, the borehole will eliminate the community’s unsafe reliance on seasonal streams and other inconsistent water sources.

On his part, Governor Kimani Wamatangi emphasized that his administration’s priority remains projects with a direct human impact. He reiterated that improving water accessibility is central to the county’s mission to uplift the living standards of every household.

He explained that the ultimate goal of the investment is to ensure everyone has water. He also noted that by focusing on fair distribution across the county, the administration aims to remove the physical and financial burden families face when searching for clean water.

Local institutions, including schools and small businesses, stand to gain significantly from this reliable water source. By powering local schools and businesses, the project will boost community hygiene and economic productivity, fostering a better environment for both students and entrepreneurs.

For the people of Githombokoni, the project represents a fresh start. They expressed confidence in the fact that the borehole would significantly improve community health, boost hygiene, and allow them to reclaim time previously lost to searching for water.

The borehole project is part of a county-wide mission to prioritize water security. By scaling these efforts, county leaders aim to bridge development gaps and ensure that a higher standard of living is accessible to all.
