BOSO Super Cup Tournament boosts youth talent in Nandi

The ongoing BOSO Super Cup football and volleyball tournament, sponsored by the Nandi Women representative Cynthia Muge, has gathered momentum across Nandi County, drawing participation from hundreds of teams in a vibrant display of grassroots sporting talent.

The country-wide tournament, now in its third edition, has seen an impressive turnout, underscoring its growing popularity among the youth.

Ward-level volleyball matches were successfully held on April 9 and 10, bringing together a total of 530 teams. Of these, 378 were male teams, while 152 were female, highlighting a notable effort toward inclusivity in sports.

From the highly competitive ward-level encounters, 114 teams secured qualification to the Sub County stage, which is scheduled to take place on April 16th  and 17.th

The next phase is expected to intensify competition as teams battle for top honours and a chance to progress further in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the football segment of the tournament kicked off on Monday across the county’s 30 wards, with participation surpassing that of volleyball.

A total of 563 teams are competing, comprising 408 male and 155 female teams. The ward-level football matches culminate today, with winners set to be crowned in each ward.

Top-performing teams will be rewarded with cash prizes, with the winners receiving Sh60,000, first runners-up Sh40,000, and second runners-up Sh20,000. The incentives have further fuelled enthusiasm among participants, many of whom view the tournament as a stepping stone toward greater opportunities in sports.

Speaking while witnessing the kick-off of a match in Tinderet Sub County Monday, Muge emphasised the broader objectives of the initiative beyond competition.

“This tournament is not only about identifying and nurturing talent among our youth but also about keeping them engaged and away from drug and substance abuse, especially during the school holidays,” she said.

The MP noted that the BOSO tournament has become a key platform for young people in rural areas to showcase their abilities while fostering discipline, teamwork and community cohesion.

Residents and local leaders have lauded the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful in addressing social challenges affecting young people.

Meanwhile, with the Sub County level matches approaching, anticipation continues to build as teams prepare for the next stage of the competition.
