The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), through a court action, recovered public land valued at Sh50 million that had been illegally acquired and subdivided into three parcels in Machakos.
According to David Too, Director Legal Services at the EACC, the land which was under the Ministry of housing and adjacent to Machakos law courts, was recovered after a court process, where the EACC had done its investigations and found the land had been carved out of government premises.
“The commissions did its investigations and asset tracking and filed a suit in court for asset recovery, and on January 26 this year the court passed judgement in favor of the Commission declaring the alienation of the grabbed land Null and void,” said Too.
Speaking to the media on the grabbed land in Machakos, Too insisted that grabbed land must be safeguarded and the EACC is on a mission to recover all grabbed public land in Machakos, Makueni, Kitui and other parts of the country.
He added that they are currently pursuing grabbed public land that belongs to Machakos prisons, where 13 parcels have been alienated and is on an ongoing court process as they pursue its recovery.
“We are pursuing properties worth Sh363 million within this region and we have already filed suit in court,” said Too
He further affirmed the Commission’s role and mandate in investigating acts of corruption, promoting ethics while focusing on integrity and recovery of illegally acquired assets and restoring public resources for the benefits of the citizens.
