Governor Otichillo urges Vihiga residents to enroll in SHA scheme

By S, KNA

Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Otichillo has called on residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to ease pressure on local health facilities and improve service delivery.

Speaking at the county headquarters during the flagging off of a consignment of medical drugs from KEMSA, the governor stressed that increased enrollment in SHA is crucial for ensuring hospitals receive adequate resources to offer quality healthcare.

Dr. Otichillo underscored the benefits of the comprehensive medical cover introduced for all Vihiga County employees, noting that SHA has already demonstrated efficiency in managing health insurance services. He encouraged members of the public to take advantage of the scheme, saying it offers an affordable pathway to reliable healthcare.

The governor further commended the national government for allowing residents to make premium payments in installments, a move he said would make health coverage more accessible, particularly to low-income households.

With enhanced support from SHA, the county aims to strengthen its healthcare system and ensure that all residents can access timely and affordable medical services.

Governor Otichillo reiterated that expanding SHA registration is key to achieving universal health coverage in Vihiga County, guaranteeing that no one is left behind in accessing essential medical care.
