Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services, Ms Janet Kurgat, has challenged health facilities management committees to place patient safety and quality healthcare at the forefront of their mandate as they steer public health institutions toward becoming the best-performing facilities in the region.
Speaking in Eldoret City on Monday during the induction training of the Pioneer Health Centre Board of Management Committee, Kurgat emphasized that the success of healthcare facilities hinges on strong leadership, sound governance, and an unwavering commitment to ethical service delivery.
“The success of our healthcare facilities depends on strong leadership, sound governance, and an unwavering commitment to ethical service delivery,” said Kurgat.
She urged committee members to faithfully adhere to existing laws, policies, and regulations while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality, integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The health CECM further encouraged board members to embrace respectful communication, foster teamwork, and work closely with healthcare workers to create an environment that delivers safe, efficient, and patient-centered services.
County Clinical Services Chief Officer Ambrose Tarus challenged the newly inducted committee to develop a comprehensive five-year strategic plan that would provide a clear roadmap for the facility’s growth and improved healthcare delivery.

He further advised the committee to prioritize the solarization of the health facility to ensure uninterrupted services during power blackouts, noting that reliable electricity is critical in supporting essential medical services and safeguarding patient care.

Tarus also called on committee members to serve with dignity and respect while observing proper governance structures by following established communication channels and consulting relevant authorities whenever necessary to enhance effective decision-making.
He noted that adherence to proper procedures and teamwork would enable the committee to deliver lasting improvements and provide quality healthcare services to the community throughout their tenure.
Speaking on behalf of the facility’s management committee, Board Chairperson Edwin Lel, thanked the County Government for organizing the induction programme, saying it had equipped members with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively execute their mandate.

The chairperson reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to working closely with the county leadership and healthcare workers to strengthen service delivery and improve health outcomes for residents.
