Jubilee Party aspirants from the coastal region have intensified grassroots mobilization ahead of an anticipated 10-day visit to the coastal region by the party’s presidential aspirant, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, as the party seeks to strengthen its presence in the region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The leaders, drawn from the six sub-counties of Mombasa, met at the Jubilee Coast Regional Headquarters in Kizingo, Mvita Sub-County, where they resolved to enhance the party’s membership recruitment drive and coordinate preparations for Dr. Matiang’i’s visit.
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i who is the Deputy Party Leader and the endorsed presidential flagbearer in the 2027 General Elections will lead the recruitment drive.
The grassroot leaders seek to drum up support for jubilee party by forcing on targeted mobilization by employing strategies such as grassroots rallies, door-to-door campaigns by party officials, public sensitization and youth and women wings.
The meeting, chaired by Jubilee Party Mombasa Chairperson Richard Barake, brought together aspirants for governor, senator, woman representative, member of parliament and member of county assembly.
The leaders said a coordinated grassroots campaign would be critical in revitalizing the party’s support in Mombasa and the wider coastal region.
Speaking during the meeting, Barake said the party had embarked on a renewed mobilization drive to unite its supporters and ensure a successful visit by its presidential aspirant.
“The purpose of this meeting is to bring together all Jubilee aspirants from the six sub-counties so that we can prepare adequately for the 10-day visit by our presidential aspirant, Dr. Fred Matiang’i. This visit presents an opportunity to reconnect with wananchi and strengthen our structures at the grassroots,” said Barake.
He urged aspirants and party officials to intensify recruitment of new members, saying a stronger membership base would enhance Jubilee’s competitiveness in the coastal region ahead of the forthcoming General Election.
Jomvu parliamentary aspirant Nickson Kibagendi called on the party leadership to provide adequate facilitation for grassroots mobilization, arguing that effective political organization depends on well-supported local structures.
“Grassroots leaders play a critical role in popularizing the party. If aspirants receive adequate support to engage residents directly, Jubilee will significantly increase its visibility and attract more members,” Kibagendi said.
The Jubilee Party is a former ruling party in Kenya, having held power from 2013 to 2022 under the leadership of former President Uhuru Kenyatta
He also credited the previous Jubilee administration with implementing major infrastructure projects in Mombasa, particularly road improvements around the Kibarani area, saying the projects had eased traffic congestion and improved transport within the county.
Former Kisauni Member of Parliament and Jubilee gubernatorial aspirant for Mombasa in 2027 polls Ali Mbogo expressed confidence that the party could reclaim elective seats in Mombasa through sustained engagement with residents and a united campaign.
“Jubilee remains a strong political party with experienced leaders. If we remain united and continue engaging wananchi consistently, we are capable of winning seats from the MCA level to the governorship,” he said.
Mbogo dismissed speculation that he could step aside in the gubernatorial race, maintaining that he would seek the Jubilee ticket and offer issue-based leadership focused on improving education and creating employment opportunities.
“We have met grassroots leaders from Kisauni and Nyali to strengthen our collective resolve to reclaim Mombasa’s lost glory. The voice and spirit of the majority remain supreme,” he said.
If elected governor, Mbogo pledged to introduce free education for all students in day secondary schools in Mombasa County by allocating Sh1 billion annually to the programme.
“Education is an investment in the future of our county. We have about 40,500 students in day secondary schools, and our plan is to ensure that every learner has access to free education without placing additional financial pressure on parents,” he said.
The former legislator also pledged to address youth unemployment, saying the county should prioritize programmes that create jobs and empower young people economically.
According to Mbogo, resources currently generated through the county’s monthly water meter levy could be redirected towards youth employment initiatives while maintaining efficient service delivery.
The aspirants expressed optimism that Matiangi’s forthcoming coast tour would energize Jubilee supporters, strengthen grassroots party structures and boost membership recruitment as political parties continue positioning themselves for the 2027 General Election.
