Luanda MCA highlights key development

Luanda Township Ward MCA David Onjiri has highlighted a series of development projects implemented across the ward, saying they reflect his administration’s commitment to improving service delivery and the welfare of residents.

Speaking during a review of ongoing projects, Onjiri cited major investments in water, roads, healthcare, education and security as evidence of the ward’s steady transformation.

Among the flagship projects is a Sh12 million water supply initiative targeting more than 300 households in Ebusikhale and Ebusiralo villages, where residents have struggled with water shortages for years.

The project includes a 100,000-litre water storage tank near the chief’s office and two 20,000-litre tanks at Epang’a Health Centre, with distribution infrastructure currently under construction.

The MCA also pointed to the recent reopening of Muluya Road in Ekamanji, a public access route that had been encroached upon and converted into private plots.

According to Onjiri, the restored road will improve movement, facilitate trade and strengthen access to essential services within the area.

He further revealed that construction of the Ekamanji Health Centre is nearing completion and is expected to improve access to healthcare services for residents who currently travel long distances to seek medical attention.

The MCA noted that installation of security lights across various parts of the ward has enhanced public safety and improved business operations during evening hours.

Additionally, he said education support programmes targeting needy learners continue to be implemented to ensure vulnerable students remain in school.

“Our agenda is simple: deliver services that change lives. From water to roads, health to education, we are building a ward where every resident feels included,” said Onjiri.

Residents acknowledged the ongoing development efforts and expressed optimism that the projects would improve livelihoods and create new economic opportunities.

Community members particularly praised the water and road projects, saying they address some of the most pressing challenges facing the ward.

Onjiri called on residents to support development initiatives and remain patient as more projects are rolled out despite limited financial resources.

He reiterated his commitment to working closely with the County Government of Vihiga and local communities to ensure equitable development across all parts of Luanda Township Ward.
