Mwea TVC Jitume Lab connected to national fibre network

The One Government Network (OGN) has successfully installed modern network infrastructure at the Mwea Technical and Vocational College (Mwea TVC) Jitume Lab.

This marks a significant milestone in improving internet connectivity within the institution. This upgrade connects the lab to the national fibre optic network, ensuring faster, more reliable, and stable internet access for trainees, trainers, and the surrounding community.

The enhanced connectivity is expected to greatly support continuous learning by enabling seamless access to online educational resources, digital tools, and e-learning platforms. It will also facilitate real-time access to global digital opportunities, positioning Mwea TVC as a key hub for digital empowerment in the county.

The installation was done during the training program at the learning institution, which brought together trainees, community youth, Jitume trainers, and officials from the ICT Authority under the OGN initiative.

The program is part of a broader effort to empower young people with essential digital skills, enabling them to effectively participate in the digital economy.

During the training sessions, participants were equipped with practical knowledge on how to navigate online platforms, access digital job opportunities, and build sustainable online careers.

The program emphasizes hands-on learning, with trainees engaging in activities such as online job searching, digital communication, freelancing basics, and use of productivity tools.

Jitume trainers provided guidance, mentorship, and technical support ensuring each participant gained practical experience and confidence in using digital tools, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.

Trainees and community youth who attended the program expressed their appreciation for the initiative, noting that it has opened up new avenues for personal growth, skill development, and income generation.

Many highlighted the importance of reliable internet access in enabling them to explore online work opportunities, such as freelancing, remote jobs, and digital entrepreneurship.

The collaboration between the ICT Authority, the Ajira Digital Program, and Mwea TVC underscores a strong commitment to promoting digital inclusion and empowering youth through technology.

The connection of the Mwea TVC Jitume Lab to the national fibre optic network signifies a transformative step toward enhancing digital access, fostering innovation, and supporting youth empowerment in Kirinyaga County and beyond.

Area MP, Mary Maingi, who visited the institution reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the institution’s growth and championing youth-focused development initiatives under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
