New KPSA leadership to partner with government to boost education

The newly elected officials of the Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) have pledged to work closely with the Ministry of Education to enhance education standards across the country.

During elections held at the association’s Annual Conference and General Meeting in Mombasa, Rosebella Ojiambo was elected unopposed as Chairperson.

The new leadership is expected to guide KPSA through a critical phase of education reforms, particularly as the country continues implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

In addition to electing new officials, the meeting, which brought together key stakeholders in the education sector, also deliberated on the rollout of Competency-Based Education (CBE) and explored strategies to strengthen the private education sector.

Ojiambo, who previously served as the association’s Honorary National Secretary, succeeds Charles Ochome of Golden Elite Schools, the outgoing National Chairman.

She emphasised collaboration with the government as a central pillar of her leadership, noting that her administration will prioritise partnerships with the Ministry of Education to improve delivery of the national curriculum.

“Our key agenda is to work closely with the national government to complement one another in providing education within a conducive environment,” said Ojiambo.

She added, “This will ensure effective curriculum delivery while improving both the quality and equity of education for learners across the country.”

Ronald Philemon was also elected unopposed as the new National Treasurer. He pledged to uphold transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management in line with the association’s constitution.

Philemon said plans are underway to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders and development partners to boost fundraising and enhance resource mobilization.

While acknowledging the commitment of existing members through timely subscription payments, he identified recruitment of new members as a key challenge facing the association.

“Last year, we utilised our budget effectively; however, increasing membership remains a priority as we seek to expand our reach and impact,” he stated.

Dr. Boniface Owiti, who was also elected unopposed as National Secretary, underscored the importance of engaging government departments to ensure teachers in private schools are adequately trained and equipped.

“Our strategy is to work closely with the Ministry of Education to enhance teacher capacity, which will ultimately improve learning outcomes in schools,” he said.
