NGAOs mobilizes youths for skills training

The State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has partnered with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to mop up youths in the villages to join technical institutions in order to gain employment skills.

Speaking after a sensitization forum with administration officers at the Kisii National Polytechnic in Kisii town, TVET Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria said the collaboration is aimed at mobilizing two million youth at the grassroots to enroll in TVETs for skills training countrywide.

“The State Departments for TVET and Internal Security and National Administration agreed to collaborate to bring the young people to the institutions for skilling following the President directive to have not less than two million youth in TVETs,” noted Dr. Muoria.

The PS noted the administrators are well-placed to reach out to the young people, including those from marginalised backgrounds, and guide them into taking TVET courses in the neighbouring institutions.

She said the Department was also working closely with accredited local and international recruiters, including the cruise ships to ensure TVET graduates are directly linked to available jobs.

Dr. Muoria added the international experiences will equip the youth with advanced expertise that can enhance Kenya’s competitiveness by expanding industries and attracting investors.

“As a nation, we are very keen to have skilled hands so that as we approach investors to establish industries in Kenya, we have the right skill to boost production in the industries,” she affirmed.

The forum brought together administrators from Kisii and Nyamira counties, led by the Kisii County Commissioner James Kamau, among others.
