Nyandarua residents give views on proposed national budget

Residents from Nyandarua County got a chance to present their views on the national budget to the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee during a public participation forum held at Ol-Joro Orok NG-CDF Hall.

The exercise, gave members of the public an opportunity to contribute to discussions on the proposed Sh4.8 trillion national budget for the 2026/2027 Financial Year.

During the session, residents urged the government to prioritize infrastructural development, increase capitation for schools and allocate more funds to the health sector to improve service delivery.

Some participants also called for increased funding towards water projects and agricultural support programmes aimed at improving livelihoods in rural areas.

Ol-Joro Orok Member of Parliament Michael Mwangi Muchira hosted the committee and the public engagement exercise that attracted residents from different parts of the county.

However, Members of Parliament from Nyandarua County’s other four constituencies did not attend the important forum.

Speaking during the meeting, Muchira praised residents for turning up in large numbers and actively participating in the budget-making process.

He noted that the views collected from the public would be considered by the committee before the final budget report is prepared and presented before Parliament.

The legislator observed that the active participation demonstrated that wananchi were becoming more informed and interested in matters relating to public finance and national development.

The National Assembly recently invited members of the public, stakeholders and organizations across the country to submit views on the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the 2026/2027 Financial Year.

Parliament said the proposed Sh4.78 trillion budget seeks to support implementation of the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
