Police in Mumias East Sub- County have launched investigations into the brutal murder of a boda boda rider and alleged suicide of a 67-year-old woman.
Confirming the two separate incidents, Mumias East OCPD Dorris Chemos said the boda boda rider was rescued in critical condition by a good samaritan but was confirmed dead on arrival at Matia Hospital on Tuesday morning.
She noted that the rider had sustained serious head injuries suspecting he might have been attacked by a sharp object and his motorbike stolen.
According to the OCPD, preliminary investigations show that on the night before the fateful day, the deceased had arrived home with a lady and left the following day in the morning with her on his motorbike. He was later found murdered and the lady was missing.
She noted that they have arrested the lady for questioning as investigations into the murder continue.
Family members of the deceased said he had just bought a motorbike for use in the boda boda business, and suspected the attackers were targeting him to snatch the bike.
The chairperson of boda boda riders in the area, Iddi Wanakai condemned the incident asking the government to boost security.
The boda boda chair also decried increasing theft of motorbikes and attacks against the boda boda riders.
The OCPD asked locals to be calm as police continue with investigations warning that those involved will face the law.
In a separate incident, the OCPD noted that the body of a 67-year-old woman was recovered with a rope around her neck at Mulukha river in Shibinga in Mumias East.
Family members who spoke to the media said the woman left home on Saturday but never returned until Tuesday when her body was discovered floating on the river.
The OCPD said that investigations are ongoing as she called on community members to always seek help when in need and when in distress and avoid committing suicide.
