Rangwe legislator Dr. Lilian Gogo has urged the youth to register as voters to enable them vote in 2027 elections
Gogo called on the Gen Zs to take advantage of the continuous voter registration that kicked off this week to get the vital vote that empowers them to elect their leaders of choice.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has recorded low turnout in the voter registration exercise that was launched on Monday.
Speaking during a visit at Wikoteng Mixed Secondary and Anding’o Mixed Secondary Schools in her constituency, Gogo underscored the significance of the youth to register as voters.
During the occasion, the legislator delivered a school bus to each school, bought through the National government constituency development fund (NG-CDF.)
She said the voter listing will enable the youth to participate in decision making through running for office and electing leaders.
“I urge all our young people to come out and register in large numbers in the continuous voter listing. Registering as a voter will enable them to become key decision makers in electing our leaders,” Dr Gogo said.
She said all those who have attained the voting age should never fail to vote during the elections.
“Voting is an important civic duty which everybody should participate in. This will only take place if they register as voters,” the MP said.
She noted that many young women in the area lack the National Identity (ID) cards and urged them to apply for the document and register as voters.
“There are many young married women in this constituency and other rural parts of our country who lack ID cards. Let them register for the ID cards and register as voters as well as for Social Health Authority (SHA),” she said.
The MP said she was committed to promoting education standards by creating a conducive environment for learners and teachers.
Rangwe Deputy County Commissioner Robert Ruki said the buses distributed will enhance efficiency in educational activities and uplift education standards in the area.
“These buses will promote academic programmes. Let the school heads use them well,” Ruki said.
