A Sh12.3 million dispensary is set to be constructed in Butere Township following the official handover of the construction site by the County Government of Kakamega to the contractor, Brinarc International Limited.
The project, being implemented through the Department of Roads, Energy and Public Works in collaboration with the Department of Health Services, is expected to be completed within 12 months and will enhance access to primary healthcare services in the area.
Speaking yesterday, during the handover ceremony, Chief Officer for Public Works Pascal Were said the project reflects Governor Fernandez Barasa’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality services at the grassroots level.
He noted that the new Level 3 facility will help ease pressure on existing health centres and improve service delivery to residents of Butere Township and surrounding areas.
“The construction of Butere Township Dispensary is part of our wider agenda to ensure that every resident has access to affordable and quality healthcare within reach,” said Were.
He added that the scope of works includes construction of the main dispensary block, perimeter fencing, plumbing and mechanical installations, a septic tank, a groundwater storage system, an elevated water tank and a two-door pit latrine.
Marama Central Member of County Assembly (MCA), Philip Maina, welcomed the project, terming it a significant milestone in strengthening healthcare delivery in the sub-county.
Maina commended the county government for the completion and equipping of Butere Level 4 Hospital, which he said has already improved service delivery.
The MCA urged the contractor to adhere to quality standards and timelines to ensure residents begin benefiting from the facility upon completion.
Also present to witness the official handover ceremony included Butere Sub-county Administrator Hillary Angoche, Sub-county Medical Officer of Health Jairo Songa, and other county officials.
