Siranga FC wins Ugenya Constituency Development Fund tournament

Sega Sharks FC’s dominance of the Ugenya Constituency Development Fund tournament came to a halt when they were thrashed 2-1 by Siranga FC during an entertaining final played at the Sega township primary school grounds.

Sharks, who have dominated football over the years, could not believe their eyes when they went down 2-0 by half time.

Playing at their home ground before a capacity crowd that included Ugenya MP, David Ochieng and former Harambee stars internationals, James Nandwa and George Sunguti, Sharks who were the pre- match favourites could only manage a solitary goal in the second half despite a spirited come back.

In other sports disciplines, Bar Ndege women’s soccer team thumped their supremacy over Ralak Visionary FC to lift the women’s soccer title.

In volley ball, Sega lifted both the men’s and women’s trophies while Ndenga beat Simur West during the Netball finals to emerge the champions.

The tournament, which brought together 130 teams from all the sub locations in Ugenya constituency, kicked off in October with preliminaries that saw each sub location produce a team to advance to the next level.

Addressing participants during the closure of the event, legislator David Ochieng, said arrangements have been finalized to have Ugenya Football club participate in the national league next year.

Ochieng who is the patron of the tournament said apart from a soccer team, a volleyball club from the sub county will also be registered in the national league next year.

“We will purchase a bus for them to enable them participate in the national leagues,” said the legislator who added that the clubs will further be kitted by the CDF.

He said that the tournament and the efforts to have the two clubs participate in the national leagues were part of the efforts to expose local talent beyond the constituency so that bigger clubs could offer local youth opportunities to excel nationally.
